Ends of backstrip and corners frayed (some loss of cloth). Front free endpaper worn and partly split along inner hinge. Back cover present but detached. Small stain at bottom of first dozen leaves. Includes chapters on Turkish History & Diplomacy, Dervishes, Armenians, Assassins, Druses, Syrian Massacre of Christians, etc. Also published a a two volume set. Madden, and Irish abolitionist, doctor, writer and traveler also wrote and account of his travels in the Middle East in the mid-1820s. (See Madden's "Travels in Turkey, Egypt etc. in 1824–27," originally published in 1829). Madden' s "The Turkish Empire" is scarce, especially in original cloth. Good. Item #56614
