Bottom of backstrip torn loose along one side. Contents sound and clean with only minor foxing. French text. Cochelet and a crew of 13 sailing from Nantes were shipwrecked on the African Coast on May 30, 1819. They were captured by desert Arabs and enslaved, sold and resold. Cochelet was finally ransomed at Mogadore and reached Marseilles in February of 1820. A much abridged English translation was published in 1822. Good. Item #71225
