Item #71881 The Bronzes of Luristan. Andre Godard.

The Bronzes of Luristan

n.p. n.d. [1931?]. Hardcover. v, 90, (5)p. Original typescript in a quarterbound portfolio binder. 28cm. Front joint chipped and somewhat tender. Some uneven cover fading. Typed on one side and bound in with red and white ribbons inserted through three holes punched along left side of typed pages. Contents sound and clean. An English translation from the French of the text of Godard's "Les Bronzes de Luristan" [Paris: 1931]. This unique copy was translated by Lieske van den Heuvel for Mrs. Christian R. Holmes, the wealthy sponsor of the Holmes Expeditions to Luristan. We know nothing further about the translator. No plates were reproduced to be bound in with this translation. A name stamp on the first blank leaf indicates that this later belonged to Stanley Charles Nott who is best remembered as a collector and authority on Chinese Jade. Very Good. Item #71881
