The Habitable World Described, or the Present State of the People in All Parts of the Globe, from North to South...

London: 1788-1797. 1st ed. Hardcover. 20 vols. bound in 10. 20 engraved second titles, 69 folding maps and plans, 155 plates. Solid 19th century 1/2 leather (marbled boards with brown leather backstrips and corners). 21cm. Browning on some plates and maps. Portions (perhaps a fifth or less) of the volumes with significant foxing; the balance almost without any foxing. A bookseller (probably from the 1950's or 1960's) has inked prices in most of the volumes (15 each) as well as a price for the set. Heraldic bookplate of Christopher Harrison in each volume. The number of plates and maps is based on a physical collation of these volumes. Trusler was a compiler of multi-volume works based almost entirely on the writings of other authorities. Overall, an impressive compendium of information, not all of it entirely reliable, about many parts of the world, although rather sketchy about Africa and most parts of the Western Hemisphere. Very Good. Item #79247

Price: $1,500.00
