n.p. n.d. [ca. 1947]. Hardcover. 180 photos. Various sizes ranging from about 7 x 9cm. up to 10 x 15cm. Photo mounted in album by a strip of cellophane tape across top edge of photo hinging photo to album page. A minority of the photos have brief ink or pencil captions on the back. Quality of photos varies greatly from rather faded or out of focus to clear and sharp. Most are amateur photos but several of the sharpest and clearest at the end of the album are stamped on back: Official Photograph United States Airforce. Lacquered oblong wooden Japanese album with traditional Japanese scene on front cover. 36 x 26cm. Corner chipped on front cover. The first 35 photos were taken in Hawaii on the way to Japan. Almost all of the remaining photos were taken while our soldier was stationed at the American air base in Chitose. The album is heavily tilted toward photos of soldiers, barracks, etc., but there are also photos of scenes in and around Chitose (e.g. a house with "Off Limits V.D." sign, a bicycle rental shop, a reformatory, a local river identified as "River," a reservoir "where we have parties,"Lake Shikotsu, and a photo of a small Japanese boy captioned, in part, "Baby san means young but still a Jap").
