[1937]. Paperback. Approximately 100 photos. Almost 90% are 11 x 8cm.; the rest are snapshots (6 x 4 cm. or a bit larger). All are pasted down, 4-9 to a page on both sides of 14 album leaves. Amateur photos, generally with Very Good detail. A few photos worn or creased along side or at a corner. Captions inked on album pages for almost all photos. The final ten leaves in the album are unused. Tied oblong softcover album with a gray cover. 24 x 33 cm. Minor soiling and light wear. The compiler appears to have served aboard a cargo ship in some capacity. One photo identifies a slight looking young man as "myself (Laurie)." It is unclear what ship he was on. At one point in the album he appears to have been on a ship identified as "Kenya." Later on he appears to have been on a ship called Dumra [which was later sunk by a U-boat in 1943]. Many of the photos are taken aboard ship but seldom of the ship. Places visited include Lamu, Mombasa, Dar-es-Salaam, Zanzibar, Seychelles, and Durban. There are 10 photos of a visit to the Valley of 1000 Hills in South Africa, about 10 of Zanzibar including a photo of his hotel room at the Hotel Africa. There are more than 10, mostly shipboard photos of Lamu (mostly loading cattle into the ship and of dhow racing nearby). The final two photos are of a sea plane ("Corinthian" with "G=AEUF" lettered on the sides). Very Good. Item #81353
