Photograph
Walters/Seattle (presumably the photographer) in white lettering in lower right corner. Image approximately 27 x 35 cm. Later modern gilt wooden frame with glass. Louis, looking young and powerful, is seated in an arm chair in front of an indistinct dark background/drape. Louis is wearing a herringbone-patterned sport coat and a buttoned white shirt, no tie. The photo is taken slightly to the side with Louis looking toward his left, directly at the camera. We don't know when Louis was in or near Seattle -- none of his fights were held in that city. We think the photographer was Samuel "Sasha" Walters, a Jewish first generation immigrant from Russia who shows up, rather sparsely, online identified as a "celebrity" photographer in Seattle. Samuel had a son named Gerold, probably born around 1919, who was also a photographer anxious to take photos of celebrities but he seems to have been active a little too late for this photograph. Near Fine. Item #82099
