Centered black & white illustration, also by Bell, mounted on lower portion of front cover. 19 cm. Covers rather worn -- decorative white ruled-lines on front cover about half gone; ends of backstrip and other extremities worn. Splitting along endpapers at hinge have been visibly reglued. Former owner's name stamp ("W. Winfree Hughes" of Baltimore) on both endpapers. No Jacket. In this Third (and final) edition, Griggs added an essay on "The Leopard Spots," an infamously racist novel by Thomas Dixon. In the earlier editions, Dixon's book is discussed in less detail by two characters in the novel. This third edition greatly outsold the two earlier editions and almost all copies which turn up are Third editions. Fair. Item #82551
