New Haven: Durrie & Peck, 1830. 2nd ed. Hardcover. folding frontis, folding map, 372p. Original tree calf. 18cm. Cover scraped off a couple of spots on front cover. Mostly moderate foxing and browning although quite heavy on frontis and other leaves at beginning and end of text. Both frontis and map are a bit misfolded with some resulting edge-wear, wrinkles and creases. Folding map is partially colored and has a long tear, the latter probably the result of being carelessly unfolded. American missionary who went to the Middle East under the patronage of the Boston Female Society for the Promotion of Christianity among the Jews. Brewer states in his Preface that, at the time of his visit, there were more Jews living in Constantinople than in any other city in the world. Very Good. Item #86898
