New York: Prindle and Matlack, 1847-1848. Hardcover. frontis, 306p. Original leather, decorated in gilt on backstrip and front and back covers. 19cm. All edges gilt. Modest scuffing along joints and edges. Moderate foxing, mostly confined to the first and last several leaves and a few other sections here and there. Scott was a leader of those who left the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1843, mostly over the issue of slavery but also over other religious disagreements, to found what was initially called the Wesleyan Methodist Connection (later Wesleyan Methodist Church). The first part (pages 1-46) of this book is dated 1847 and contains Scott's personal narrative dictated during his last illness; the balance, with a shorter title on a separate title-page, was compiled by Matlock as stated in the general title but is dated 1848. Very Good. Item #87631
