Jacket basically sound but with rubbing and wear along folds and edges and also with rather heavy staining on the reverse side around the base of the backstrip (minor show through of the staining on the front side). This book was inexpensive and mostly forgotten in our first two decades (1970s and 1980s) in the book business. Today the book and its author are held in high regard. Online listings seem to refer to this Houghton Mifflin edition as the 1st American edition but we are not aware of its earlier publication elsewhere and Markham was then living in the United States.
