Notes Taken during Travels in Africa

London: J. L. Cox and Sons, 1839. 1st ed. Hardcover. 3 plates (including frontis), 217p. Original brown cloth competently but not artistically rebacked in maroon buckram. 28cm. Edges or original cover rather heavily rubbed. New endpapers (probably when rebacked). Bookplate (Burke Casari). Foxing (especially heavy on frontis) and some staining on the three plates. Names removed by sanding from a rectangular stamp in upper right corner of title-page. Davidson, who had traveled in Europe, the Middle East and North American, was killed while trying to travel from Tangier to Timbuctu. His companion (Donellan) went on toward Tinbuctu but was never heard of again. Some of Davidson journal and letters survived. This privately published account was compiled from that material. Very Good. Item #87670
