Modest tear on bottom edge of first leaf. Extensive light foxing. Pictorial black & white military illustration on top two-thirds of first page. The publisher of this piece of sheet music was known as Fiot, Meignan and Co. from 1835 to 1839 and then continued under the imprint A. Fiot until 1855 Earliest editions of this piece list the publisher under the earlier name. Francis Johnson was the first African American to have any of his compositions issued as sheet music. He was also a talented performer on the keyed Kent bugle and violin. He and his band were popular entertainers in the Philadelphia area and performed in Great Britain in 1837. Good. Item #88502
