Autograph Letter, Signed. Dated May 12, 1870. Addressed to James Kirk

Three pages (on a single sheet folded to form 4 modest pages). 21cm. Small hole through both pages with no loss of text. Odd mis-fold in bottom right corner. Dr. Darrah, who we were unable to further identify, writes a letter that is almost entirely an unrestrained Anti-Black rant about Republicans and the 15th amendment. His letter uses the "N" word 7 times. Darrah mentions that he had intended to write to Kirk about where to send his issues of the Delawarean, making it almost certain that the recipient is the James Kirk who published Delawarean, a weekly newspaper in Dover, Delaware. Darrah ends his letter: "[H]oping and wishing you success in your Business and that you will be instrumental in keeping your state a white mans." Very Good. Item #88553
