INSCRIBED to Dudley Field Malone by Dell on front free endpaper in volume I ("To Dudley Field Malone who kept me out of jail ... Floyd Dell 1927").. Field, along with Morris Hillquit, had successfully defended Dell and others in 1918 in the famous "The Masses" trials. Malone, a talented lawyer apparently specializing in divorce cases, served in 1925 as co-counsel with Clarence Darrow, as they defending John T. Scopes for teaching evolution. Good. Item #89224
