Endpapers splitting along hinges and now at least partially reglued. Several leaves have a small black mark/hole in right margin; contents otherwise generally sound and clean. No jacket. Payne's volume, published in 1856, recorded AME Church history to that date. Smith's task, as the fourth official historiographer of the AME Church, was to produce a volume bringing the history forward from 1856 to 1922 although Smith begins this book with a few chapters covering covering and contextualizing some pre-1856 events.
