Jacket has: (1) edge-wear and a couple of modest chips; (2) fading of upper portion of backstrip panel; (3) a sticker with library call number held on with a longer strip of cellophane tape near bottom of backstrip panel; and (4) modest soiling. Two items laid in: (1) an undated Borzoi $1 leaflet which includes this title by Hughes; and (2) an otherwise blank rectangular card on which is typed in blue "With the compliments of the author." Bookplate ("Community Church of New York Library Gift of Anna and Thomas O. Johnson") mounted on front pastedown. Front free endpaper browned. Short stories. 2500 copies of the first edition were printed. Statement in red at bottom of front flap: This book will not appear in a cheaper edition before the Spring of 1935. Whether it does so appear at that time or later will depend on how large a sale it enjoys during the first year it is on sale. Usually it is possible to produce cheap editions only of those books that sell widely at the original price." Dickinson's "A Bio-Bibliography of Langston Hughes, 1902-1967" makes no mention of a cheaper edition although it seems clear that there were some later printings. Very Good / Good. Item #90583
