Armenian American memoir. Ray, born in Izmit (Turkey) was originally named Garabed Roupen Abrahamian. The Willard in his adopted name honored Gordon Willard Allport, one of Ray's teachers at Robert College in Constantinople. Ray, talented in technology but academically indifferent, is awarded a special scholarship which enables him to emigrate to America in 1922 where he gets works in radio, lives Connecticut and, late in life, enjoys rebuilding complex pipe organs.
