Ware, the white President of Atlanta University Clifford concludes her piece: "When it is generally conceded that the newly elected Governor of Georgia ... secured his election through his superior ability to stir p race hatred and the lowest animal passions -- and he, be it remembered, a member of the superior white race; and when for three days a white mob had control of Atlanta, attacking, maiming, and killing whomsoever it wished, provided only his face was black -- I say that when this is the spectacle presented by the proud white race to a gaping world, a lecture to blacks on self-restraint becomes indeed a roaring farce!"
