London: Longmans, Green, and Co., 1866. 2nd ed. Hardcover. 3 volumes, frontises, illustrations, index, xli, 492, 549, 567p. Attractive red quarterbinding. 22 cm. Minor cover wear and spotting, including some visible rubbing, mostly at cover corners. Modest damage to fore-edge of several pages in Vol. III. Edited by Lady Theresa Lewis. The first edition was published in 1865. According to the brief "Advrtisement to the Second edition," Lewis had died soon after the first edition was published in 1865 so the task of revision fell to other unnamed individuals. Mary Berry and her younger sister Agnes became great friends of Horace Walpole and lived for many years at Little Strawberry Hill which they inherited after Walpole's death Mary wrote or edited various books, the most famous of which was a 2 volume work titled (in part) "A Comparative View of the Social Life of England and France ...").
