(1838). 4 p. handwritten letter folded to be envelope. Single sheet folded once to make a four-page letter. 20 x 25 cm. (as folded). Written in a reasonably clear hand. Small piece torn ourt of edge of pages 3 and 4 with the loss of a few letters of text. Postmark is just a manuscript "Elkton" with an 18 3/4 cents rate written in upper right corner of the front of the letter as folded and sealed for mailing. Groome served as Maryland's Secretary of State about a decade after this letter was written.in Maryland later on in 1838. In this letter, he writes extensively about a legal dispute involving an African American girl and the validity of an indenture and advises Wilson to consult local counsel while offering to "... render any aid in his power."
