Holograph Letter dated March 14, 1843 which appears to be a request to be allowed to chastise or physically punish an unnamed female slave

Single long narrow sheet folded to form four pages and then further folded into a stampless letter. 20 x 17 cm. when folded into four pages. Brown ink. Letter written on only one of the four pages with the addressee's name and address written on the adjacent page after folding. This is what we think the letter says: "March 14, 1843 Dear Brother We wish you to give us something to show a peace of writing for [??] we are [?? are afraid so Nathan sais he will then take upon himself to correct her and not til then or let us know what you would take for her time if you knew her as well as we do you would do anything to put her in her place [missing word] is no comparison to Mis Lim. She must be put in feare of some one, or we are all in danger of being burned up. Nathan wrote to you but we got no answer. please to write to us do not let any one know that we wrote to you and would not have the negroes to it for worth of them, let us know if she was mentioned in the emancipation of your [??] blacks. I write to you by by the request of N. H. We remain. Your's Respectfully N. H Chaitt." Two words only partially present where the letter is chipped and we could not decipher a couple of few other words. Recipient's name on other side: "Mr. Worfield Simpson, LibertyTown, Frederick County" [probably the still unincorporated area by that name in Maryland] and, much more faintly, "Received March 15." We assume that Chaitt was writing from somewhere in Maryland since no state is listed in the address. Good. Item #92600
