Washington and the scheduled speaker, was a Republican Party functionary, a newspaper columnist and a popular orator at African American events. No subject is given for his address. Burt High School was the only high school for African Americans in Montgomery County, Tennessee. Wilma Rudolph (1958) is Burt's most famous graduate. We assume that this American Legion Post was for African Americans who had served in America's segregated Armed Forces. Good. Item #92713
