Frederick-Town Herald. Vol. VII, No. 12 (August 27th, 1808).

Frederick, Maryland: 1808. Folded four-page newspaper. 29 x 46 cm. Later horizontal fold. Modest chipping and wear along edge of right margin. A few dark (ink?) spots obscuring a few letters on first two pages. We bought this because of the advertisements on the fourth page. Among those advertisements are three for runaway slaves, two for runaway apprentices and one offering for sale a good "Negro" Carpenter. Rewards for the Runaway slaves were $50 for one man (if caught 100 miles from home and a greater or lesser amount proportionate to the actual distance from home when caught), $30 from the Sheriff of Charles County in Southern Maryland for a man who had broken out of jail, and $15 for a woman named Hannah and three month old child. The offered rewards for the two male apprentices were $20 and 6 cents. No price or further description for the carpenter was given other than "Apply to Capt. Stallings, Frederick-town." Very Good.
