Time and Eternity, Thanksgiving Edition Gospel Mission, Jackson, Mississippi

Jackson, MI: The Pioneer Gospel Mission, INc., n.d. [ca. 1956]. 3 small photos, Folded four-page publication. 28 cm. Two vertical folds so that this could be mailed as a business-letter-sized self mailer (with one small piece of tape (now just tape marks) used to hold it closed when mailed. Modest splitting at one end of both horizontal folds. Article titled "Taxation without Representation" decries the recent [1955] passage of an amendment to the Constitution of the State of Mississippi permitting voting registrars to prevent potential voters (meaning African Americans) from registering to vote if they could not interpret sections of the state constitution to the satisfaction of the registrar. A half hour program ("The Radio Bible Institute") was being broadcast ever day on station WRBC in Jackson at 4:30 PM as the voice of the Pioneer Gospel Mission. Rev. Erwin R. Wedel, an African American, is identified as Director. The mission also appears to have operated a Bible Camp for youth in the summer -- mentioned (and accompanied by a photo) on page 3. OCLC locates one holding (Univ. of Southern Miss) but is unclear about what issue or issues they hold -- if our issue is typical, dating them is not obvious. Item #92847
