Among the contents: "William Stanley Braithwaite," a chapter from Benjamin Brawley' s book ("The Negro in Literature and Art") -- Braithwaite had just been awarded the 4th Spingarn Medal (pages 269-272 with no photos); "Fiftieth Annual Report of the Principal ..." (pages 273-312 with 15 photos); and "The Negro as a Soldier," by James A. Moss, Colonel of the 367th Infantry, 92nd Division (page 313 with no photo). Hampton had 900 boarding students for the 1917-1918 academic year including only 23 Native Americans, a number that had been in steep decline since Congress cut off support to Hampton's Native American students in 1912. The Principal's annual report states on page286: "Indications are that Hampton's work for the Indian is coming to an end, except as a few individuals for reasons of sentiment may choose to attend from time to time."
