Crockett, born in Florida, graduated Morehouse(1931) and University of Michigan Law School (1934). He was admitted to the bar in Florida in 1934. He was the first African American hired as an attorney for the the U. S. Department of Labor (1939). Four years later he was appointed by FDR as a hearing examiner for the Fair Employment Practices Committee. He went back into private law practice after World War II and was one of five lawyers representing American Communist leaders when he gave the summation from which the material in this pamphlet is an extract. After two decades in private practice, he served as a judge of the Detroit Recorders Court (1966-1978). This was followed by brief service as acting corporation Counsel, City of Detroit, and election as a Democrat to the U. S. House of Representatives where he represented Michigan's 13th District for five+ terms. Very Good. Item #93734
