Hardcover. 152 photos. one to five to a page, inserted in corner mounts of both sides of black album leaves. Mostly amateur photos of varying quality. There are five large format professional groups shots taken of the hospital and at the nearby golf course. very few captions. The one envelope present is addressed to Pvt. Harry O. Ellis, probably the compiler of this album. 43 photos appear to have been taken in or near Belgium. The Belgian photos are not exciting. Seven show train engines. One engine identifiable as 2295 Herbesthal RGD. 45 photos were taken in or near Huntington, West, Virginia, Toledo (Ohio) etc. 37 photos relate to time working at Ashford. including five large photos (generally about 25 x 20 cm.) which are much larger than the other photos in this album. The last 27 photos in the album appear to relate to our soldier's family and friends. Oblong tied orange album (35 x 28 cm.). The album also contains a couple of menus, a couple of military travel publications and a TPN Corps armband. The U. S Army bought the Greenbrier Hotel and surrounding land in 1942 and converted the hotel into a large Army Hospital (Ashford General Hospital) for the duration of World War II. The buildings and land were sold back to the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad in 1946. The Greenbrier Hotel reopened two years later. Very Good. Item #94151
