Columbus, Ohio: Published and edited by S. Medary, 1863. five column eight page (57-64 for this issue) newspaper. Disbound (removed from a bound volume with stitch marks, etc. along left side. 50 cm. Horizontal fold. A newspaper full of politics, opinion and outrage. The lead article on the second page in this issue is titled "The History of the San Domingo Massacre" which was taken from a pamphlet by Louis Schade published in 1860. The article fills all five columns on the second page plus the first column and a half on the following page. Samuel Medary, who did not favor the abolition of slavery, was supportive of "so-called "Copperhead" Democrats, endorsing Clement Vallandigham for Governor in 1863. A year later, Medary was charged with conspiracy against the government and died before being tried. Item #94831
