Typed Letter, Signed, on letterhead stationery of The Piney Woods Country Life School For Training Colored Boys and Girls in Christianity, Character and Service.

One page (four paragraph) letter dated January 28, 1938. 28 x 22 cm Faint creases and fold line. Minor foxing. Brooks indicates that she is temporarily at Piney Woods, teaching a course in shorthand. We assume, but do not know, that she is the same Nellie F. Brooks, a philanthropic volunteer and D. A. R. member from Waterloo, Iowa, whose two years in the early 1920s at Piney Woods Country Life School is described at pages 102-108 in "Piney Woods and Its Story," a 1922 book by Laurence C. Jones, founder and Principal of the school. This letter is addressed to Henry W. Taylor of Austin, Texas. The letter includes a confusing paragraphs about memberships for Brooks and Miss Margaret Carnahan in Signam Tau Gamma (the male fraternity?) and an enclosed money order (not present) for $6 to cover yearly membership for both. She also mentions wanting to have her copy of Travel sent to her at Piney Woods. Perhaps Mr. Taylor was the Henry W. Taylor who was involved with the Mexican Journey travel group which seems to gotten going in the late 1930s. Very Good. Item #94919
