An unsigned watercolor painting. Image size approximately 13 x 26 cm. as later matted and framed under glass. Brown paper slip mounted on back: 3 Whores by Charles Hughes -- 1957 Property of Owen Dodson. Slip handwritten by Dodson, the African American writer who was also a distinguished professor of theater at Howard University. This painting came to us two or three decades ago with a lot of other Dodson material. The identity of the artist was mysterious at that time but we had it reframed to preserve the painting and the brown paper slip on the back. We still have no idea who Mr. Hughes might be -- perhaps one of Dodson's students has been one of our speculations. We are listing it online to see if anyone tells us anything about the artist or just wants to own the painting. Very Good. Item #95072
