One page on a sheet sheet of inexpensive offwhite note paper. 13 x 21 cm. "Balt. Md. Oct 21/922 To Mr. Herry C. Doyle, Here is the autography as you resqested. With every good wish George Freeman Bragg." Enveope not present. Bragg, an African American, was born into slavery in North Carolina and grew up after the war in Petersburg, Virginia, where he graduated from Bishop Payne Divinity and Industrial School in 1886. He became rector of St. James Episcopal Church in Baltimore in 1891 and remained there for the rest of his life. Bragg also wrote several books and edited and published a couple of journals.
