Old color soiling and has some faying and wear along extremities with a lottle los of cloth at corners and along ends of backstrip. Spine lettering worn but still readable on the now somewhat wrinkled backstrip.Endpapers preserved with recenty addition of new cloth hinges. New spine lining discreetly visible at ends. Frontis glued a bit widely to title-page so that the two pages do not lie flat when opened; otherwise iInternally sound and clean with some age-toning. No jacket (we still haven't seen a copy with a jacket). An impressive pioneering book on the history of African Americans in California. Years of dedicated research by Beasley went the writing of this fact-packed book. The book has no comprehensive index to help one know whether and where information about any particular individual might be found. Good. Item #95706
