Cancelled counter check for the Citizens National Bank in Waco, Texas payable to Jules Bledsoe for $3.00. Endorsed on the back ("Jules Bledsoe").
Counter check. Approximately 20 x 8 cm. Check drawn in pencil on front by M. C. Carlisle. Endorsed in ink on back. Jules Bledsoe, a baritone, is regarded as the first major African American opera singer. We have no idea why Bledsoe was getting a $3.00 check in Wacon in 1932 although he did continue to have family there and that is where he was buried. We are not entirely confident that it was Bledsoe who actually endorsed this $3 check rather than a helpful relative. Very Good. Item #95840
