Single page dated October 27th 1903 to "Dear Friend", 20 cm x 14 cm. The return address is Clark University So. Atlanta, Ga. Complete text: Dear Friend, Please accept at this late hour my thanks for your kind words of congratulation on my election to the presidency of Clark University. I hope the administration of my office may not fall below the expectation of my friends. Very Cordially yours, W. H. Crogman." Date and Crogman's holograph signature in blue ink. Crogman, who must have had some African ancestry, was born Sint Maarten, a Dutch-controlled island in the Caribbean. He was orphaned at twelve and came to the United States two years later. Crogman attended schools in Massachusetts and did some teaching before attending Atlanta University where he was a member of their first graduating class in 1876. He became professor of Greek and Latin at Clark University. He was elevated to the Presidency of Clark in 1903 as this document indicates and filled that office until 1910. We don't know who received this thank you note from Crogman. Fine. Item #95970
