Tokyo: Chosen sotokufu, 1931 and 1932. Lacks binding. [Vol.] 11: 30p. text plus 173 (2 folding) plates including photographs, sections, plans, 2 folding maps, facsimile. [Vol.] 12: 16p. text plus 135 plates, including photographs, sections and plans. Both volumes lack their covers. Vol. 12 also lacks the bottom original purple tie. 41 cm. (2 cm. less than with their covers). Former owner's name stamp on several pages in both volumes. Some spotting and wear on inner leaves. The former owner, a scholar, has written brief notes in an annoyingly large hand on a few pages. All edges gilt. Japanese text. Japan occupied Korea from 1910 to the end of World War II in 1945. We have the 11th and 12h of a series of 15 of these large volumes on Joseon Ancient Monuments which were published in Tokyo by the Japanese occupiers between 1915 and 1935. Vol. 11 contains plates on Structures such as fortress walls, schools, and seowon (Confucian academies), Volume 12 contains plates, on Buddhist temple architecture. Good. Item #96224
